Shore Leave 2005
Got
there Friday night because I was told I could set the table up the night before,
but then they said no. So I got them to let me stasht he table stuff in a room
nearby because the tables were nowhere near the guest rooms. While I was checking
in, Alexis Cruz walked by. Sexy! (Alexis is probably best known for his role
as Skaara in the Stargate movie and SG1 series.
Went
to the lobby desk to look for my roomie and Steve Bacic walked in. Steve plays
Rhade on the series Andromeda. Yowza!
Found my friend that I was rooming with and managed to settle down. Worked on some Invisible Man stickers for the table, then went to a Lost panel discussion at 10pm. I brought some of the info from discussions on the ABC Boards, but that particular discussion didn't focus on theories much. They talked about the characters. None of them had seen the UK promo though, and the guy had a laptop hooked up, so we watched that, and people didn't seem to have much to say. Then the couple leading the discussion showed us a couple of videos they've made. One was this hysterical "Flight Safety" video. If you want to check it out, their site is kobatv.com. They have other fandom vids too.
Went back to the bar and hung out for a little while before going up to bed.
I was going up the elevator, and this lovely redhead rode up with me. I knew
she was one of the guests, but I didn't know she was Chase Masters of Star
Trek: Deep Space 9 fame. I was wearing my Grumpy Dwarf t-shirt that says
"Get lost" on it, and she said it was cute. I told her it was the
closest thing I could get to a Lost-related t-shirt, then I asked her if she
watches the show. She said, "No. I have a friend who's on there."
*jaw drop* "Who?" I asked. "Maggie
Grace"
was the reply. I started to ask her about Maggie in comparison to the character,
but then she reminded me she'd never seen the show. So of course, I said, "Well,
you should!"
Got up Saturday morning and went to set up the table. Alexis Cruz was sitting just 10 feet down from me at another table! Such a lovely view. I snuck off around noon (had someone watch the table for me - thanks Krys!) to go get my picture taken with Steve. Should have just used my own camera as the pics all came out orange. But they had them printed out for signing the next day.
After the photo op, I was talking to a woman in the hallway. I mentioned that I had to get back to my table. Steve overheard and came out of the room and asked me about the table. I told him I was running the Invisible Man Fan Club table, and I jokingly said he should come sign the petitions. He asked me to deliever a "message" to Mark Goddard, who played Maj. Donald (Don) West in Lost in Space, the tv series. I said okay. He wanted me to kiss Mark on the forehead and tell him that was from Steve. Then he added that I was to say "The Red Sox suck" which almost got Steve in a brawl right there, as I am a Red Sox girl.
So I went back downstairs, delivered the smooch on the forehead to Mark, who had a return smooch on the cheek for Steve. (These guys are weird.) Well, there I am at my table, and Steve comes along looking to sign the petitions! What a sweetie pie! So I delivered Mark's kiss on the cheek to Steve.
The table had to be broken down overnight, so I did the daily prize drawing and then did that. I was starving by the, but it was almost my time to get int he autograph line for Steve. In the autograph line, I tried to convince Steve to send a "message" to Alexis, but he said Alex gets enough kisses. *pout* What about MY needs, Steve?! Anyway, he wrote "Thanks for the kiss" in my program book, which I promptly showed off to everyone.
I went and got some food and took a nap until about 10pm. Woke up feeling grumpy and hung out with a fellow grumper for a bit (Hi Matt!). Danced at the 10 Forward dance, which made me not grumpy, so Matt left me. :) Went to bed. Woke up on Sunday with a raging headache.
I went downstairs and set up the table. Had lots of time leftover, so I went and got some breakfast and took some medicine for the headache. Bad idea. The medicine had me wanting to curl up under the table, and I had to try to be cheerful and enthusiastic all day. :)
At one point, Alex had stepped outside, and when he came back in, I was zoning out. He came running up to the table and started yelling at me about "How can you have a tv show if you can't see the hero!?" Scared the snot out of me, but it was funny.
I passed out brochures for Alex's Lemonade Stand and encouraged Alex to choose it for a charity. We talked off and on, and I mentioned that a writer is being sought for an I-Man movie. He has seen the show and expressed some interest. He's currently writing for 2 other projects, including a series. So we agreed to talk over dinner.
I
got to meet Danny Strong, who is best known as Jonathan on Buffy the Vampire
Slayer (one of The Trio) and also on Gilmore Girls as the Yale
newspaper editor. I have to say that Danny is adorable and just too sexy with
these glasses on!
I spoke with Chase Masterson a bit more, and she is really just so beautiful and nice and down to earth. I didn't do much picture taking unfortunately, because I was working for most of the weekend. I did get a couple of interesting ones though...
This
guy cracked me up, and I had to get a picture with him. There was a pink R2
unit as well as an R2D2, and I tried to get a pic of them together, but my camera
was being cranky for some reason. :(
And I had to get some pictures with Alex of course!
The
Stargate fans had actually built a fullsize stargate down at the end and were
doing pictures to raise money for charity. So I made Alex take a picture of
me with the gate.
I did the drawings for prizes on Sunday, and then I broke the table down and loaded up the car. Got in the autograph line again, so Steve could sign the pic of us together and met a lovely lady who I hope to stay in touch with. (Hi Des!)
Relaxed for a bit, then had dinner with Alex. We talked about I-Man and various ideas for a movie version and the characters' directions and some of his projects as well. I was delighted to learn that he likes Dungeons and Dragons! I haven't played in ages, but I miss it, and I always like finding other people who like it. We talked in the bar after dinner. Steve and his fan club were on the other side of the bar. He and I started passing messages back and forth by way of Desiree. Then Alex sent him a message too. Eventually we all got kicked out and ended up hanging out in the lobby. There's a computer there which has free internet access. I got on there to show Alex a pic of an actor I had been telling him about, and Steve and Alex were looking over my shoulder. I asked Steve how you join the fan club, and he told me his web address.
But FIRST! I had to go to the LOST message board and post that I'd met someone who knew Maggie Grace. I think Steve was a little offended. :p So then I went to both Steve's and Alex's sites and joined the message boards. Then it was back to chatting on the couch for a bit before everyone went off to bed or to home. I think I got everything. I'm sure I haven't of course. If you were there and you read this and you see something missing, email me!
