Got there Friday
night and my sweet Desiree helped me get settled in, then took me to a Star
Wars party where I had to guess what character I was (a sticker on my back)
based on yes or no questions to the rest of the people in the room. Strangely,
asking "Am I bigger than a breadbox?" hwlped me figure out that I
was Chewbacca. :) I took a second turn and got to be Yoda. They had the coolest
cake... Check it out!
I went to do some wandering and greet people I hadn't seen since last year. It was great. For the first time in five years I went to a convention and didn't have to run a table. I was able to relax, stay up late, and just talk to people and geek out. I went to the Karaoke and sang "Zoot Suit Riot." I think I'll do "Boot Scootin' Boogie" next year. ;)
Saturday, during the day, I got some food, wandered around a bit, and then eneded up sitting at the end of Corin Nemec's table because whenever there was waiting that involved standing, it killed my back. It gave me a great chance to actually talk to lots of people who came by, many of whom were waiting to meet Corin. Later in the day was the photo op session with Jamie Bamber (Lee "Apollo" Adama on Battlestar Galactica), so I was dressed in what I know is an attractive outfit. Then word came down that he was running late and photo ops and autographs would cut into time when contestants were supposed to be getting ready for the masquerade. I'd never even attended one before, let alone entered, so I didn't know what to do. I went and did all the makeup and ears and whatnot ahead of time then hid my costume downstairs under a table, so I'd be ready.
I had bought a couple of LOST I.D. badges. One was a Dharma employee badge, and the other was an Oceanic Airline Cabin Crew badge. I started to go towards Jamie for the photo, and he eld out his arm to put around me. Without a word, I turned and went to the table where my purse was to take the badges from my shirt and set them down. I turned back towards him, and he had his arm out still, with the addition of a somewhat bemused look on his face. I said, "Those were my LOST id badges." He said, "LOST?" I said, "Don't you watch LOST?" (After all, what kind of weirdo doesn't watch LOST?) And he said, "No, I don't watch LOST." He still looked a bit bemused. Being the LOSTaholic that I am, I said, "That is my absolute favorite show." * *pause* * "I mean 'Battlestar Galactica's my favorite show." This with a wicked grin. He laughed and said, "At least right now." I said, "Yep." and put my arm around him for the pic. The poor guy's shirt was sticking to him. It was so warm in that room, and he'd had to stand there taking picture after picture with people.
I teased him about LOST later in the autograph line as well. He was very easy going, and very well-dressed. But he didn't want to write something LOST-related on the picture! He said he'd never seen the show, so it would make sense. I said it wasn't supposed to make sense for him, because it was for me. He just kind of rolled his eyes and signed it.
I participated in the Masquerade Saturday evening. The schedule was nuts because of the way things had been rearranged when Jamie came in late on Saturday. You won't be able to tell, but I had my elf ears on when I took my pic with Jamie because I had to get ready before-hand. I'l post links to the pictures at the very bottom of the page. I won second place for the Fantasy category. But I think of it as 1st because I made the costume myself (including the jewelry), and the 1st place person bought her whole outfit from Moresca at some Ren Faire. I feel like that's a cheat, but the judges didn't know who made what, so it's no big deal. I am very proud to have won 2nd place and to have only been beaten by Moresca is no small thing. :)
I changed into one of my belly dancing outfits for the 10 Forward dance and had fun doing around and visitng with different friends all over the hotel. Went to bed around 4am or something.
I had been wearing a nice brown shirt and pants (Seen is one of the pics with Corin)for the photo op and the rest of the day on Saturday. Subday, in the autograph line, I was just wearing jeans and a tank top, and Jamie gave me a hard time about being "underdressed". Jamie (who will never read this) this is for you. :p
Ywo of my favorite new people that I met are Lauretta, who was from Australia (I think), and is a teacher. She was very smart and funny. The other was Mark Gross, who's a writer for Autograph Collector magazine. Loads of fun to talk to.
I have scanned the signed photos, including the one of Jamie and myself, but haven't been able to get them online yet. Soon...
| Saturday, with the nicer outfit. Corin was the sweetest guy. Neither he nor his handler objected to my sitting at the end of their table most of the time because waiting in the lines was killing my back. So I chatted with Corin quite a bit. He's very well read and very open.

Minerva, myself, & Samwise - Love the dogs! | Sunday - dressed down a bit. Poor Connor Trinnear was sick all weekend. I almost didn't have my pic taken with him because I'm terribly paranoid about getting sick from people. But I'm glad I did. He was a real trooper all weekend. | This is not a great picture. The expression on my face is because I was in pain. Corin was actually holding me up at that point. You'd never know if from his sweet smile.

| Better pics of Corin and myself. He was so sweet to indulge me for wanting a good pic. And I love the hat! | Jamie "Apollo" Bamber and myself at the official photo op | Corin was in a sketch on Sunday afternoon. They made him wear these antennae things, along with a fedora, a pair of fairy wings, and they made him wave a wand and dance around. It was very funny. When he signed my photo, along with the "LOST" bit he'd put in, he did a little self portrait of himself in the sketch. | Dinner Sunday evening. Check out this Super-Mega-Curly Fry!!!! |
There was a woman there with two service dogs to help raise money for the foundation which helps people and service dogs. The dogs are Samwise Gamgee (Golden Lab mix, I think) and Minerva, a wonderful sweet Pit Bull pup. I started going around and offering to make a donation each time one of the guests posed with the dogs. Here are the ones who we managed to get. Connor Trinnear wanted to, but he had to leave while the dogs were in line for the autograph with Amanda Tapping.
| Here's Amanda Tapping signing Sam's blanket and posing with Sam and Minerva. | Corin Nemec always seemed to enjoy having a little fun with Sam. | Gigi Edgley was really sweet about posing. I think she really took a shine to Minerva. | Spice Williams and Todd Bryant took a break from their action demonstration to pose with dogs. |
If you were there and you read this and you see something missing, please visit my LiveJournal and comment there. Thanks!
Pics of my autographed photos :)
Cheers!
